Indiana's 22-Game Win Streak Ends on Heartbreaking Incomplete Pass Against Ohio State

Indiana's 22-game winning streak, the longest active run in the FBS, ended in a 19-15 loss to No. 4 Ohio State on Saturday after a fourth-down touchdown pass to wide receiver Nick Marsh was ruled incomplete when his left foot touched the boundary line in the end zone. Ohio State improved to 5-1 and 3-0 in Big Ten play, while Indiana fell to 6-1 but remains in the College Football Playoff picture.

With a 22-game winning streak on the line in a Big Ten contest against Ohio State, Indiana trailed by four points and needed a touchdown to take the lead. Trailing by four points at Ohio State's 27-yard line, Indiana faced a fourth-down conversion attempt with about a minute remaining — needing four yards to keep possession and stay alive in the contest. Dropping back behind his line, Hoover found Nick Marsh open along the back of the end zone and put the ball on him — a connection that referees on the field called a touchdown, putting his side in front. None of the passes found a target receiver. Frame-by-frame footage from the video review confirmed what the on-field official had already ruled: a portion of Marsh's toe had made contact with the boundary rope, however faint that contact appeared, and the score was consequently disallowed. Hoover's delivery carried both pace and precision, and Marsh slipped away from his marker in time to gather it. With the fourth quarter winding down, Indiana had strung together a scoring run that kept the gap within reach. Marsh hauled in a 19-yard throw, and when the two-point conversion followed, Hoover had trimmed the deficit to four at 19-15 — answering moments after Julian Sayin found Jeremiah Smith down the field for a 38-yard score that had pushed Ohio State's lead wider. Absent from the lineup with a shoulder injury, Sayin watched from the sideline as Indiana's defence forced a rapid three-and-out, handing the offence the ball at the start of what turned out to be the final drive of the match. With that outcome, Indiana's overall record moved to 6-1 — the lone defeat marking the program's first loss since an unbeaten run that had stretched all the way back to a College Football Playoff contest against Notre Dame on Dec. 20, 2024. Carrying a 5-1 overall record into conference play — where three wins had kept their ledger spotless — Ohio State addressed what the prior Big Ten Championship Game loss had left unresolved.
