Indian Rupee Among Asia's Worst Performers This Quarter Amid Oil and Bond Yield Pressures
The Indian rupee declined 1.2% in the July-September quarter and 0.7% on the month, making it one of Asia's weakest-performing currencies. Elevated crude oil prices, rising global bond yields, and geopolitical tensions weighed on the currency, while persistent Reserve Bank of India dollar sales helped limit deeper losses. Markets are anticipating a 25 basis point rate hike from the RBI, and inflows of $143 billion since June have provided additional support for the rupee.
