India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Mumbai on October 20 to discuss bilateral ties and the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. The meeting was confirmed by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. Jaishankar will also host UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Mumbai on October 19 and 20, and will attend celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of US independence as a Guest of Honour. Rubio's India visit, which includes stops in Mumbai and Jamnagar from October 17 to 22, is aimed at strengthening energy cooperation between the two countries.

A scheduled meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Mumbai on 20 October — aimed at advancing the relationship between the two countries — was confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday. At a twice-weekly press interaction, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed a question about Jaishankar's schedule for an upcoming Mumbai trip, at which point he disclosed that the meeting would be taking place. A two-day visit to Mumbai by UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, scheduled across 19 and 20 October, will be received by External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on an official basis. Jaiswal noted that on 20 October, meetings with Rubio are scheduled alongside participation in festivities marking 250 years of US independence, with the visitor accorded Guest of Honour status. Jaiswal noted that the encounter between Jaishankar and Rubio would give both delegations an opening to explore ways of deepening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Speaking at a Bloomberg New Economy Forum panel, envoy Sergio Gor indicated that Secretary Rubio's itinerary includes meetings with Indian government officials in Mumbai, adding that Dr S Jaishankar was anticipated to be among those present. A planned visit to India by the Secretary of State is expected to advance discussions around energy cooperation, according to a State Department statement. His itinerary stretches from Samarkand, Uzbekistan, through two Indian stops — Mumbai and Jamnagar — covering the period between October 17 and October 22. Welcoming foreign dignitaries at venues beyond Delhi has been an established pattern over roughly the past ten years, Jaiswal pointed out. Separate visits brought together the leaders of Spain, Mauritius, and Germany — with Baroda, Ahmedabad, and Varanasi each serving as the respective meeting ground between the Prime Minister and his counterparts, Pedro Sánchez, Navin Ramgoolam, and Friedrich Merz. Three diplomatic gatherings fell under the External Affairs Minister's stewardship: a Foreign Ministers Meeting convened in Goa, a bilateral reception for Botswana's Foreign Minister held at Kevadia in Gujarat, and a Heart of Asia Conference that took place in Amritsar.
