India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will travel to the United States from September 29 to October 5 to attend the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and hold bilateral trade discussions with US officials. The visit focuses on advancing a bilateral trade agreement, seeking preferential tariff terms for India, and promoting India as an investment and manufacturing destination to US business leaders across multiple sectors.

Piyush Goyal, who holds the Commerce and Industry portfolio, is scheduled to travel to the United States between 29 September and 5 October for the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting and bilateral discussions with government representatives and business leaders. Goyal is scheduled to participate in the G20 gathering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on 30 September and 1 October, following an invitation extended by US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. Alongside the main proceedings, Goyal is scheduled to meet trade counterparts one-on-one, including his opposite number from the United States, as the two sides seek to progress a bilateral trade agreement and lock in an interim arrangement consistent with the joint statement of 7 February 2026. Negotiations are under way as India pursues reduced tariff rates relative to those available to rival exporting nations. Goyal stated earlier in the month that the bilateral trade agreement would be concluded once Washington extended a preferential tariff rate relative to those offered to competing nations. India is anticipated to advocate at the G20 summit for a transparent, rules-based multilateral trade framework centred on the World Trade Organization, alongside sufficient flexibility for nations still developing their economies. Goyal is also scheduled to hold discussions with top executives from manufacturing, consumer goods, agribusiness, retail, and technology firms across Milwaukee and Chicago. Attendance at business and startup roundtables forms part of the schedule, with India's potential as a manufacturing and investment hub among the topics to be promoted. According to the Commerce Ministry, the trip seeks to bolster bilateral trade and investment relations between India and the US while expanding cooperation with G20 nations.
