The T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan on Sunday drew a noticeable lift in orders across food delivery platforms, with broadcasters at JioStar also drawing advertiser attention as commercial interest tracked the spike in viewership demand. Pakistan's withdrawal of its earlier boycott stance cleared the way for the fixture against India to proceed as arranged in Colombo. Both Sri Lanka and India hold joint hosting duties for the tournament.
Food delivery apps Swiggy and Zomato introduced flat-rate discounts at participating restaurants ahead of the match, while snacking and beverages brands in the impulse-purchase space bolstered quick-commerce stock levels in anticipation of order volumes rising by more than half. Advertising buyers at media purchasing companies flagged a late-breaking weekend spike in rates across the constrained pool of available slots, while a portion of bars and clubs pushed dine-in prices for live-viewing events to more than twice their typical Sunday levels.
Sagar Daryani, who holds the position of NRAI president while also serving as chief executive and co-founder of Wow! Momo Foods, projected a 35–40% rise in delivery volumes during peak match hours relative to a typical Sunday, while also targeting average order values climbing beyond 20% through match-day combo offerings, with dine-in transactions tracking a comparable uptick. Brands including Thums Up, Netflix, Google Gemini, Oreo, and Flipkart joined as advertisers across multiple sectors. Rahul Singh, founder of The Beer Café, noted that the day's trading patterns were expected to resemble those of an ICC knockout fixture rather than a routine league match, attributing the compressed lead-up period to a noticeable intensification of late demand.
Reservation enquiries and group bookings climbed noticeably over recent days, Singh said, despite the late confirmation — a pattern consistent with past fixtures of this type, which have historically drawn visitor numbers close to double a typical Sunday's, with guests tending to linger and spend more at the bar and table.
Advertising expenditure climbed by 25%, with ten-second slots on broadcaster JioStar fetching Rs 40 lakh apiece — roughly double the Rs 20–25 lakh typical of non-peak periods — after advertisers who had been holding back entered negotiations over the weekend, once Pakistan reversed its earlier position and confirmed participation in the match. A media buying firm executive, speaking without attribution, noted that certain clients were motivated to outpace direct rivals in inventory acquisition, even at the elevated rates. JioStar's top-tier sponsors for the event include Britannia, Amul, Hyundai, Emirates, Rapido, and Mahindra & Mahindra. JioStar has projected ad revenue of more than Rs 2,000 crore from the tournament for itself alone.
Xenia Jamshyd Lam, general manager at Hyatt Centric Juhu, noted that the property expected visitor numbers to run above a typical Sunday, with most dining and beverage outlets likely to operate near full capacity — projecting roughly 15 to 20 per cent growth in covers and food-and-beverage revenue over a standard weekend. She added that while menu prices would hold steady, certain reserved seatings and group bookings could carry a modest premium reflecting the uptick in demand. Separately, Raahul Prabhu, vice president at Solaire, put his property's anticipated lift in footfall and overall business at between 30 and 35 per cent above what a regular Sunday would ordinarily bring in.
Eesha Sukhi, who founded The Bluebop Cafe in Mumbai, projected visitor numbers running 50 to 60 per cent above what a typical Sunday evening would bring through the door. Ticket demand from friend groups and corporate bookings pointed toward a capacity crowd for the fixture.
