The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named a 16-player squad for the two-match Test series against New Zealand, scheduled for November 2026. Jasprit Bumrah returns to the Test setup following an injury-enforced absence from the Sri Lanka series, alongside a first call-up for Haryana pace bowler Anshul Kamboj.
Bumrah is named to anchor the pace attack across the two home fixtures, with the opening Test scheduled for 19 November. His most recent Test appearance came at Guwahati's Barsapara Cricket Stadium during the November 2025 series against South Africa.
Washington Sundar has also been named to the squad. An injury kept the Tamil Nadu representative, who contributes across both batting and bowling disciplines, away from the touring party that travelled to Sri Lanka.
Sai Sudharsan has been cleared of fitness concerns ahead of the New Zealand series. The left-handed batter was picked for the Test squad against Sri Lanka in August before withdrawing after sustaining an injury.
Nitish Kumar Reddy's place in the Test setup has been restored following his recovery from the fitness issue that kept him out of the Sri Lanka series in August. Selectors have slotted him into a fast-bowling all-rounder role for both matches against New Zealand.
Bengal pacer Akash Deep, returning to competitive action after a seven-month spell on the sidelines, has earned a place in the squad for the series. Kamboj, the Haryana pace bowler, has also received his first Test call-up. He bats further down the order and contributes with the bat.
Praveen Dubey Suthar has appeared in three Tests, with his bowling drawing attention as a facet of his game, but selectors left him out of the squad named to face New Zealand. Tanveer Sangha Jain, a Madhya Pradesh all-rounder whose Test debut came against Sri Lanka in Colombo on 23 August 2026, was also not included in the touring party.
Sarfaraz Khan has been left out of the squad. He was brought in to cover for Sudharsan during the Sri Lanka tour in August but did not appear in a single match throughout the series. Manav Suthar Brar, who retained his place in the ODI setup, was not included when selectors named the Test squad.
Auqib Nabi Dar, the pace bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, was not selected for the Test squad. He led the Ranji Trophy wicket charts across the previous campaign, finishing with more dismissals than any other bowler in the competition, without having earned a Test cap.
