India and Mongolia Reaffirm Defence Cooperation at 14th Joint Working Group Meeting in Ulaanbaatar

India and Mongolia held the 14th Joint Working Group meeting in Ulaanbaatar, co-chaired by Dr Ishita Ganguli Tripathy and Brigadier General Gansukh E. Both sides reviewed defence cooperation activities, acknowledged the Nomadic Elephant joint military exercise, and assessed cybersecurity and capacity building initiatives. The Indian delegation also visited the National Defence University of Mongolia to review the Cyber Security Training Centre established with Indian assistance.

At the 14th session of their Joint Working Group, held in Ulaanbaatar, delegations from India and Mongolia took stock of existing defence ties and mapped out areas where collaboration between the two countries could be broadened. Delegates from both nations' defence ministries gathered to go through active cooperation programmes, take stock of where existing initiatives stood, and map out ways to deepen joint work in areas the two sides had jointly flagged for attention. A broader exchange covering both regional affairs and international matters also took place. Chaired jointly by Dr Ishita Ganguli Tripathy, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, and Brigadier General Gansukh E., Deputy State Secretary of Defence of Mongolia, the meeting drew shared acknowledgement from both delegations for the completion of the Nomadic Elephant joint military exercise, an outcome that underscored the two nations' ongoing efforts to deepen defence ties. Capacity-building programmes and personnel training for the Mongolian Armed Forces drew an expression of gratitude from the Mongolian delegation toward India's ongoing contributions in those areas. During the visit, talks between Dr Tripathy and Mongolian Armed Forces Deputy Chief of the General Staff Major General Usukhbayar J. covered ground on where defence cooperation between the two countries currently stands, with both delegations pointing to areas where that relationship could be taken further — including steps toward a more structured forward-looking framework under the India-Mongolia Strategic Partnership. A stop at Mongolia's National Defence University allowed the delegation from India to assess how the Cyber Security Training Centre — built with Indian support — had been operating. Language training programmes and cybersecurity collaboration formed the centrepiece of Mongolia's acknowledgement of India's ongoing support, with both sides pointing to knowledge exchange and capacity development as foundations for deeper defence ties and a broader bilateral partnership. Rooted in centuries of shared history and cultural exchange, the relationship between India and Mongolia rests on a foundation that stretches well beyond recent diplomatic ties. Ties rooted in religion and shared cultural traditions formed part of the backdrop to the visit, which also saw the two nations agree to deepen links across defence training, cybersecurity, and military engagement.
