With South Korea's rating decision now on record, every rating body that has evaluated Grand Theft Auto VI has placed the title in the adults-only category. A 19+ age rating was assigned to the title by the Game Content Rating Board on or around 16 October, roughly a month ahead of its scheduled 19 November release.
Across every territory where GTA 6 has received a classification — North America, the UK, continental Europe under PEGI, Germany under USK, Japan under CERO, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and South Korea, plus Saudi Arabia and the UAE where storefronts display a 21+ badge — the assigned rating lands at the uppermost adult tier that each respective classification body makes available.
Under its rating framework, the ESRB flags the title for content spanning graphic violence, bloodshed, explicit sexual material, nudity, coarse language, and depictions of drug and alcohol consumption. Rating systems in Australia and New Zealand explicitly flag sexual content, while Germany's USK points to portrayals of severe violence, substance use, and figures who model criminal behaviour.
On 27 August, Australia's Classification Board assigned GTA 6 an R18+ rating — one category above the MA15+ label that Grand Theft Auto V received at its local release — citing consumer advisories covering high impact violence, sexual content, and drug use. The X18 listing that appeared for the title beforehand was most likely a cataloguing mistake, given that the rating applies exclusively to content barred from release through conventional retail channels. That R18+ classification serves as formal verification.
Rating boards routinely flag in-game purchase mechanics — a widespread industry practice — yet Take-Two Interactive's chief executive, Strauss Zelnick, has stated that no recurring spending features are scheduled for the title at release. Labelled entries for "nudity" and "strong sexual content" on the ratings display indicate that both categories are present within the title. No verification of the particular events behind the disclosed information was provided.
Of all the markets under consideration, Japan stands apart as the one requiring a caveat. The rating CERO Z was attached to the title around 17 October, following a period under board evaluation that flagged content falling under crime and violence categories. Adjustments to localised content have accompanied certain prior Japanese editions of the GTA franchise. Whether Rockstar plans to adjust anything for that region has not been announced.
Retail purchase controls — pegged at 19 and older across South Korea and at 21 and older throughout Gulf markets — remain in place alongside the countdown to 19 November.
