Jean-Christophe Laloux has been named as the incoming chief executive of the European Investment Fund (EIF), with the role taking effect on 1 January. Falkstedt, who is set to retire, will be replaced by him in the role. Having overseen the European Investment Bank's lending and advisory portfolio across the EU, Laloux brings over two decades of experience at the institution to the role. His work has encompassed the creation of funding instruments for rapidly expanding technology firms, infrastructure endeavours, environmental initiatives, and private-sector ventures, spanning areas such as venture debt, risk-distribution mechanisms, and project financing. Calviño, who heads the EIF, highlighted Laloux's history of building financial instruments aimed at bolstering Europe's technological standing. Prior to her role at the EIB, which she took up in 1999, Laloux had accumulated experience at Boston Consulting Group and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Mike Jool and Adeel Khan are set to assume joint leadership of Barclays' investment banking division as co-chief executives from February, pending regulatory clearance. Jool is set to come on board at the bank in early 2025, having previously served as co-head of global investment banking at Bank of America. He oversees Barclays' worldwide trading and markets division. Each appointee will hold a position on the bank's group executive committee, with the institution's head of investment banking noting that the division had posted revenue growth and improved returns since 2023, while also advancing a more cohesive offering for its client base. Venkatakrishnan, Barclays Group chief executive, noted that as the organisation moves into the next phase of its strategy, Adeel and Mike would work together to lead the investment banking division, with the aim of delivering a more cohesive offering to clients; separately, Standard Chartered PLC announced that Manus Costello had been named Group CFO and executive director. The appointment of Costello, first disclosed in May, confirms his position as head of the banking group centred on emerging markets. Having accumulated 25 years in the industry, the professional held the position of global head of research during a 14-year tenure at AllianceBernstein, with prior experience as senior director of equity research at Merrill Lynch. CEO Bill Winters stated in a press release that Costello, who joined Standard Chartered in 2024 as global head of Investor Relations, had contributed to the group's strategic direction and stakeholder engagement, while also demonstrating analytical rigour and an entrepreneurial approach in the position. Peter Burrill has been named as the incoming Chief Financial Officer and Executive Board member at Julius Baer, with the role set to begin on 17 August pending regulatory clearance. Prior to this appointment, he served as interim group chief financial officer at Standard Chartered for nine years. Prior to that role, Burrill held positions at Deutsche Bank for close to four years, serving as group controller and co-head of group finance. He takes over from Evie Kostakis following a restructuring at the top of the organisation, with Bollinger's statement noting that Pete brings extensive experience across finance and regulatory functions, having overseen a broad range of responsibilities in those areas. Drawing on broad international exposure across key markets and a background in wealth-focused banking, he is expected to be a valuable addition to the team.
