Delhi Police Detain Cockroach Janta Party Leaders at Jantar Mantar Amid Venue De-notification

Delhi Police detained Cockroach Janta Party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka on Tuesday while they attempted to reach Jantar Mantar. The detentions followed the de-notification of Jantar Mantar as a designated protest venue. Party founder Abhijeet Dipke stated that protests would continue nationwide until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigned, and that the removal of the venue designation would not stop demonstrations.

Delhi Police detained Cockroach Janta Party members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka on Tuesday as the two made their way towards Jantar Mantar, with party founder Abhijeet Dipke indicating that protest activity would continue at locations throughout the country until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar vacated his position. In a social media post, Dipke put forward the view that the prime minister had a personal dislike of public gatherings, and went on to argue that redesignating the area would not stop demonstrations from taking place — with resistance to the policy, in his telling, something no government held the formal authority to cancel. He pointed out that working toward such an understanding remains a shared responsibility. Protests nationwide, Dipke indicated, would persist until Gyanesh Kumar vacated his position. Delhi Police detained Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, both affiliated with CJP, on Tuesday as the two were en route to Jantar Mantar, according to police.
