Characterising the drone strike on King Khalid International Airport as a violation of the laws of armed conflict, the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen pledged that any retaliatory action would be carried out within the bounds of international humanitarian law. A coalition spokesman holding the rank of Major served as the named point of contact for the statement. A statement from Gen. Turki Al-Maliki characterised the October 10 strike on the airport's passenger terminal — an attack that left civilians dead and wounded — as a violation meeting the threshold of a war crime under both international humanitarian law and the customary rules governing armed conflict. In a statement, al-Maliki characterised the attack as an act of terrorism and attributed responsibility to the Houthi group, adding that the incident ran counter to humanitarian principles and moral standards. A statement from the coalition's Joint Forces Command indicated that any reply to the attack would be carried out in keeping with international humanitarian law and the established rules of warfare. Figures released by Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation placed the toll from the strike on King Khalid International Airport at 12 fatalities and 309 people treated for injuries, and the statement followed in the wake of that disclosure. Among those who died were four nationals of Saudi Arabia, two from Bangladesh, and one person each holding citizenship in the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan. A number of those hurt remained in an unstable physical state, with hospital care ongoing for each of them, GACA confirmed. Property damage resulted from the attack, officials confirmed, with evaluations of its full scope still ongoing. Airport operations were brought to a halt for a period after the incident, as officials worked to evaluate the extent of any harm done and confirm that facilities remained safe for use.
