Prime Video has released a new trailer for Blade Runner 2099, offering audiences another look at the setting of the long-running science-fiction series. Set well past the era covered by Blade Runner 2049, the upcoming series ventures into a more distant stretch of time, where the line separating human beings from synthetic life has become harder to draw with any confidence.
The show, anchored by Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer, is set to explore themes of identity and humanity alongside narrative threads of mystery and peril. Fifty years after the era depicted in Blade Runner 2049, Los Angeles finds itself navigating an uncertain and shifting period in its history.
Portrayed by Schafer, Cora moves through the story as a woman whose years on the run have shaped everything, and who now works toward a life built on different terms. She enters the Blade Runner role — a world she had long held at arm's length — bringing with it a shift in how she presented herself.
Brought together by the trajectory of Cora's narrative, she and Olwen — a replicant of an earlier generation, portrayed by Yeoh, who is now moving through the final stretch of her lifespan — find themselves bound in a partnership that neither would have sought out on her own. The pair join forces to track down another fugitive whose concealed past carries the potential to unsettle an already unstable city.
A futuristic backdrop frames the investigation at the heart of the trailer, where the characters navigate questions around identity, survival, and the reach of humanity's technological choices. The tagline attached to the series — "Welcome to a future we no longer control" — establishes the thematic register the show adopts throughout.
Pairing Yeoh with Schafer draws on two actors whose on-screen personas have each carved out a recognisable identity of their own. Olwen, the character Yeoh inhabits, carries both accumulated experience and the weight of mortality into the story's interrogation of what replicant life means, while Schafer's Cora arrives as a human figure whose driving impulse is to break free from the forces that have defined her.
Among those rounding out the ensemble are Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke, and Maurizio Lombardi.
Silka Luisa, who previously brought Shining Girls, Halo, and Strange Angel to screen, holds both the creator and showrunner roles on the series. Among those credited with writing duties are Claire Kiechel, Kirsa Rein, Tom Spezialy, Monika Revilla, Ryan Willison, and Luisa, while direction of the production's episodes falls to Jonathan van Tulleken.
Ridley Scott's 1982 film adaptation of Philip K. Dick's 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? laid the foundation for what would become the Blade Runner universe. Under Denis Villeneuve's direction, Blade Runner 2049 pushed the franchise's established concerns around artificial intelligence, memory, and identity into previously uncharted thematic ground.
Set in a timeline beyond the earlier films, Blade Runner 2099 charts its own course through a landscape where advancing technology and ethical ambiguity have left deep marks on the world. Prime Video has set November 25, 2026, as the launch date for Blade Runner 2099.
