Black Caps Name Extended ODI Squad for India Series with Four Notable Returnees

New Zealand have named an extended squad for their ODI series against India, splitting the group across the five-match series. Rachin Ravindra returns for the first three games after a shoulder injury ruled him out of the T20 series, while Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, and Tim Seifert come back into the ODI setup for the final two matches. Their inclusion is linked to preparations for next year's ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. The series opens with a T20 on October 22nd in Christchurch, with the first ODI in Auckland on November 4th.

New Zealand's ODI squad for the home series against India has been expanded to include four players returning from previous absences. Nine players withdrew to prepare for the upcoming test series, leaving the squad split into two batches — one assigned to the opening three fixtures, the other to the final pair. Rachin Ravindra, the side's all-rounder, was left out of the opening T20 fixtures after a shoulder injury sustained during a promotional shoot for the tour, but has been included in the squad for the first three matches of the subsequent series. Finn Allen, returning to ODI cricket after an absence stretching back to 2023, joins fast bowler Lockie Ferguson — whose own 50-over recall follows a similar gap — in the squad for the final two matches, with wicketkeeper Tim Seifert, Allen's T20 opening partner, also named despite not having appeared in a one-day international for roughly 18 months. With the ODI World Cup scheduled to be hosted across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, the tournament now sits within a twelve-month window, lending added context to the three players' inclusion. Christchurch plays host to the opening T20 fixture between the two sides on October 22nd. Auckland plays host to the opening ODI on November 4.
