At Least 139 Migrants Dead After Boat Capsizes Between Djibouti and Yemen
At least 139 migrants, including 15 children, died after a boat carrying approximately 305 people capsized near Djibouti's coast on the night of October 8–9. The International Organisation for Migration reported over 80 survivors, all Ethiopian nationals, while more than 80 others remain unaccounted for. Djiboutian authorities are continuing search and rescue operations, and the IOM has deployed teams to assist. The incident occurs amid renewed conflict in Ethiopia's Tigray region and ongoing fighting in Yemen, with tens of thousands of migrants traveling this route annually in search of economic opportunities in Gulf countries.
