Inner Mongolia's Ulanqab Transforms Into China's AI Computing Powerhouse
The city of Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia has rapidly developed into one of China's prominent AI computing centers, with the region's computing capacity nearly quadrupling to 363,000 petaflops by August 2026. Driven by low energy costs, favorable climate, and proximity to Beijing, major technology companies including Alibaba, Huawei, ByteDance, and VNET Group have established operations there. The region is pursuing green computing through renewable energy and water-conservation technologies, while also working to transition from raw infrastructure provision toward token trading and AI application development.
